About Grace:
Grace has an M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soulcare from Talbot School of Theology at Biola in California. She is a staff Spiritual Director at Biola University, and also meets with individuals and groups privately and in her local church, RockHarbor Church.
One of her favorite things is listening to others name the truth within their stories, across every profession and life stage.
"Perseverance is not the result of our determination; it is the result of God's faithfulness," says Eugene Peterson. Grace's journey has largely involved opening to this truth — that the spiritual life is about discovering God's faithful work and love, rather than generating self-powered growth.
Having served in music ministry and leadership in the church for over 25 years, Grace (and her husband) has journeyed with pastors, leaders, and friends through joyful and challenging seasons. Her heart is for leaders who need a safe place to process hurts, grief, past trauma, or abuse. Leadership can be a lonely place, but it doesn't have to be.
Grace is a mom to two teenagers and a Golden Doodle named Lucy, who arguably favors Grace the most. In her free time, she enjoys noodling on the piano, listening to podcasts, and taking nature walks alone or with a friend.
What Is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual Direction is a practice that helps awaken us to what God is doing in our lives through the slow work of listening. A spiritual director is a spiritual companion who listens to your story while listening to the Spirit. It is a safe space for processing decisions, confusing emotions, and life events. In a culture that prizes self-sufficiency and problem-solving, we rely on God's work of grace.
A trained Spiritual Director is deeply rooted in the Scriptures, while also understanding the gap that often exists between knowledge and lived experience. This type of shepherding fosters great honesty with God and ourselves. We believe it is the Holy Spirit who initiates and empowers spiritual growth and maturity. Author and Pastor Eugene Peterson writes that spiritual direction is indispensable for pastors and leaders to maintain spiritual health and integrity. All of our experiences, from our greatest joys to our darkest moments, are sacred to God. Nothing is wasted.
